Looking and Comprehending

Well, if it isn't you guys. The Wizard101 "community," as you're called. Hello. This is a transmission from deep space. It has crossed the intervening cosmic darkness, transcended the innermost depths of radiating asteroid belts and swirling nebulae, and it has arrived here, on Wizard101 Information, my old blog.

Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Dustin MoonCatcher. My friends, it has been far too long since we last spoke. So much has transpired, great things, some of them good, some of them not so good, and some of them even downright bad. Nevertheless, I have somehow, through an unfortunate and complex combination of sympathy and nostalgia and egomania, decided that the time was right for me to grace the Internet with another post here at my old stomping ground, Wizard101 Information. Friendly, your evil plan has worked better than you had yourself imagined. For those confused-
Yes, folks, I am now Tweeting again. That's rather degrading to say, but my God, it felt good to say it.

Before I get into what I've been up to, let me give you all a most-thoroughly-deserved clap on the back. What have you guys been up to besides presenting to this online community a wealth of massive and inspirational growth, that not only teaches tips for online interaction but so intricately sets wonderful guidelines for any kind of interaction, any kind of creative process, any kind of thing? You guys kick some serious a**, even though, this being a community [fortunately] brimming with children, you can't exactly go shouting words like a** off whenever you want. I kindly beg for your forgiveness.

You guys wanna know what's severely surprising to me? This blog still gets some impressive hits. There hasn't been a post on it in over a year, I think, until now, and yet, as I just a few minutes ago looked back at its stats, it has had consistently high (mid-70s, low-80s) page views. What about this blog could possibly keep you guys coming back to it? David and I were never that great. I've also heard that the Grandmaster Gear guides were helpful, but by now, surely Wizard101 has introduced higher levels, of which I know nothing, the names of which I might guess in my complete ignorance are High Mage, or Gandalf, or Professor, even.

So a thunderous and humble congratulations I send to you, Wizard101 community. You've done good.

And me? I've done.

"How's it going, Dustin?"

"It's going."

"I said, how's it going, Dustin?"

"It's going. You know."

You guys would be completely ashamed if you heard how I was spending my time nowadays. I have literally not played a game, despite the occasional Minecraft splurge, since I went cold-turkey on Wizards, and boy, it has felt great. I don't shame you guys at all for being so involved in this virtual reality, but when you quit it, even though you don't wanna, it's like quitting a powerful addiction. You start to soak up reality much more. Everything becomes a bit more beautiful, a but less fuzzy, right in front of your eyes, and you understand size a bit more. Your perspective starts to change a bit.

You try to meditate to make up for this loss. You read some books. You listen to some music. I have done  all of these three things, and my God, I've really changed as a person. That's really why I'm here today to talk to you guys -- well, besides from congratulating you. I wanted to share some stuff with you that I've met since leaving Wizard101, and I hope you guys will find it as illuminating I as did.

And after I do that, I want to reinstall Wizard101 and I want to come back for a party, 'cause I know you guys like to throw those, though not in the figurative sense. YES, guys, I will come back, but I don't intend to stay back. I'm living the high life right now. I love not playing games.

All right, I've got the two top life-changing things for you on my list that I've met since I've left Wizard101. Any of you -- please excuse me -- older folks in the community probably have heard of both my life-changers. If you haven't, I promise, you're in for a treat. They are, in no particular order-

Well, before you watch this video, allow me to explain what it is. It's a commentary on a photograph taken by Voyager 1 as the latter turned around out past Pluto, on the suggestion of a man named Carl Sagan, to take a picture of Earth from what we might consider the deepest reaches of space. Earth, in the picture, which you'll see in the video, is barely a pixel, and Sagan's remarks on it had a hugely powerful effect on me.

Ah, that's unbelievable any time I watch it. The way Carl Sagan turned perspective on its head was really astounding for me, and I was completely stunned for a few days after first hearing his remarks a few months back. Literally, I could not get up from my seat for hours. I sat just marveling the message Dr. Sagan was conveying, and I completely flipped out, and went out and bought some of his books. In The Demon-Haunted World he says something which I consider particularly striking: "For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, no matter how satisfying and reassuring." Since, I've watched his Cosmos series, which is available on Hulu and Netflix. I'm telling you, this was a man far ahead of his time. Real inspiration.

The next (and final thing I'll share tonight) thing for me was discovering a band called Neutral Milk Hotel.  They wrote, headed by a man named Jeff Mangum, the most beautiful record ever recorded, which is In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. This record changed my entire opinion on what could be done with music (keep in mind I am a musician). Mangum squeezes so much emotion out of his voice, it's unbelievable. As if you needed any further proof.

If you have not already done so, you must listen to the full album. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea will change you. This is music at its finest.

In other news, I've been doing a ridiculous amount of writing, most of it I don't know what it means, so I won't bother posting any of it. Just thought I'd share with you guys what's been going on in my life, because honestly, I really do miss you all, and I think about this community a lot. Here's what strikes me:

I've never seen any of your faces. I don't know, at heart, what your beliefs are, what your beliefs aren't, what kinds of things you care about, and what kinds of things you don't care about. I don't know any of you. But despite this indelible fact, you've all been able to impact me for the better, even though this is a remarkably tiny world, and we are remarkably tiny beings. When we do small things they're huge to us, and small to the vastness of everything, but who cares?

Sure, Einstein cares. He is the one who after all said, "Time is relative." Thus, the theory of relativity.

However, do not ever forget that it was also Einstein who said, "Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift."

The End.

Hey guys, its David here. As you can tell Dustin has decided to come to the same conclusion. Unfortunately I have decided to stop my membership soon. I have thought a lot about how great the community is, so I have decided to stay with my skype wizzes, and the great people on Twitter. I have to thank all the bloggers, who have given us support and who we in a sense, became to know each other. I hate to leave, but Wizard101 has lost interest, I feel that I am at a roadblock, that has no detours. Furthermore I would like to give my greatest apology to my parents. It was I who ate the last piece of apple pie. I'm not one for dragging out things, so I will end this with a paragraph, and a sentence, and a quote.

Who knows, when Morganth becomes a huge threat to the Spiral, I might just pay her a visit.

"Even if the Morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return" (Final Fantasy XII)

Thank you all.

Keep on Casting

The Beginning

My fellow Wizards,

It has come to my attention recently that my grandparents, who, up to this point, have been paying for my Wizard101 subscription, will no longer pay for it due to these tough economic times. They have been so amazing about paying for it so that David and I could have interactive communication. But recently, it has just become too much for them. I do not blame them at all for this, yet, and so it is, with much regret, I have to announce that I am leaving.

But before I sign off of here for the foreseeable future, I just have to thank you all. This community solely has made my life a better place to be. When I am a grandfather, I'll tell my grandchildren all about this Wizard101 community, this place where you can be anything, this amazing paradise. I'll tell them about Friendly, and the inspiration he is to us all. About Stephen and Leesha, the dynamic pioneers. Kevin BattleBlood, the experimenter. Cassandra GriffinDreamer, the one who was always optimistic and there. Kestrel ShadowThistle, the thinker. To all you wonderful people who make this place what it is, I applaud you. You guys are like a family to me, and I will always remember you all. I thank you all so very much.

David TitanRider, my cerebral cousin and best friend.

I will keep tabs on you all now and then. Wherever the web may take me, always, I'll be around on Twitter. Wizard101 and all my friends here will be in my always.

Another expansion, another paycheck, who knows. Should there be any chance that I could come back to this community, I'll take it right away. (Donations are accepted *wink*.)

From WandCast to Ravenwood Radio, from The Friendly Necromancer to The Chillanthropologist, from Wizard City to Celestia, this game has changed me for the better.

In the meantime, I will be reviewing books on a new blog of mine called The Feared Bumblebee. I'm starting with "The Hobbit." You can find it here.

This is Dustin MoonCatcher signing off for quite some time. Thank you guys for this opportunity! I promise to keep in touch... You can contact me best on Twitter - @mooncatcher101.

Exceedingly Tedious Various Updates from Dustin, Abridged.

Hey all! Dustin here!

It's been a little since I posted, but that's cool. My Bar Mitzvah is all finished up now (it's David's turn next. I can't wait.)

Anyway, I scored an Epic Bundle Gift Card from David for my birthday. Thanks cousin! I've been putting a lot of energy into putting it together, and it's been going really well. I started Gardening as well, and it's going... okay. I'm really not a fan of having to check on the Garden everyday. I think KI really should look into fixing that. Sorry. Kestrel's T Word Theorem is just too prominent here.

What else, what else. Oh! Celestia! David and I recently faced one of the most deadly minions of Morganthe - yet another shark! I'm not sure about the name of the boss, but finishing up a certain instance level (aka dungeon if you're not an old timer) ended with our entry into the Sun Zone of Celestia. Updates coming soon on how that's been!

I'd also like to take a moment to commemorate Luke GoldHorn, a fantastic blogger who is leaving the Wizard community for at least a few years. Luke, you've earned this break, and come back or not, you've been a truly amazing friend to David and me. We both wish you luck in all your future endeavors. Even though we'll be talking to you on Skype now and then ;-)

All right, folks. That's my update... for now.

Signing off with a mighty "EEEPA, EEEPA,"
D. MoonCatcher

Does it work?

Hey y'all working on having my posts say (Posted by David TitanRider) so this is a test post. :)

Kingsisle Open Chat Change. (****PATCHED****)

Ok, for those of you who have realized this, KI has put a restriction of Open Chat to only people who have put in a credit card (aka adults). This was the message from Lydia GrayRose.

Subject: Update to Open Chat

Professor Greyrose

06:25 am

Accounts that are NOT currently subscribed with a credit card will no longer have 18+ open chat. Those accounts will revert to Text Chat. Open Chat is a feature for accounts currently subscribed with a valid Credit Card.

We try to offer a full range of player account options (ie. Credit Cards, PayPal, Gift Certificates, Gift Cards, subscriptions, access passes, free trial, etc). Each of these comes with its own set of benefits and limitations.

For instance, as a crowns player, you have lifetime access to areas purchased. As a credit card subscriber, you’re given the option to enable 18+ chat (if you’re 18+ in age of course).

The fact that some accounts were able to retain their 18+ chat ability even when they were no longer subscribed, was a bug. In an effort to keep the player options equitable for all, we fixed the bug.

We thank you for your understanding. Please note, your ability to chat is not gone, your account will retain the filtered chat option.

". . . with Persistence, Victory is assured"

Professor of Ice Magic

This is a pretty sad excuse to get people to be polite on Wizard101. It not only effects those who are following chat rules-(Who are now quitting, or planning on it). It is also affecting people who play with crowns. THIS IS A TEMPORARY FIX FOR PEOPLE WHO JUST WANT TO DISRUPT Wizard101. THEY CAN JUST AS EASILY PUT IN A CREDIT CARD AND RESUME WHAT THEY WERE DOING BEFORE. Kingsisle should change this immediately, for the sake of the community. I know this post is a little one sided, who I suppose I should focus on benefits.
Since the bad things were all posted above.

Good: It helps to limit people who use vulgar language.
It also requires people to have a credit card to "ensure" adultery behavior.
I cant think of other reasons, but I once again think of this: THIS IS A TEMPORARY FIX FOR PEOPLE WHO JUST WANT TO DISRUPT Wizard101. THEY CAN JUST AS EASILY PUT IN A CREDIT CARD AND RESUME WHAT THEY WERE DOING BEFORE.  Honestly what percentage of people who do say vulgar words actually have they're parents know about this!!!!!!!!   KI didnt think very well about this problem, and should reconsider a better course of action.

Thanks for listening to my onesided Rant.

Thanks all- ( and yes it still says Posted By Dustin MoonCatcher- which is annoying)
